I Used to be Fat.....



I am not a doctor, a dietitian or a fitness instructor.   But I was overweight and I've managed in the last few years to take control of my body.  I've struggled with my weight most of my adult and teenage life. I know how it feels to feel hopeless and uncomfortable in my own skin.   After years of healthy eating and exercise, I've decided to try something different to lose the last few pounds bothering me.   I want to cleanse my body after years of abuse, and start fresh with a healthy digestive system and a metabolism that won't let me ever end up unhappy again.  This is my Clean 9 journey.




These days my weight usually sits around 9 stone 8 pounds but after a hectic few weeks including a holiday to Puerto Rico and my 30th birthday, I was carrying a couple of extra pounds.  I took weights and measurements 2 days pre-Clean 9.



So why detox?



In the days leading up to clean 9 I have tried a few bee pollen, cut down my calories and caffeine intake to make things the adjustment a little less difficult for myself.  I've been drinking aloe vera morning and evening and also taking Forever Garcinia plus.


Day 1:  Weigh and Measure
  • Weight :  9 stone, 9 pound and 3/4
  • BMI :  23.5
  • Body Fat : 26.8%
  • Water : 53.9%
  • Waist : 27 inches
  • Hips :  39 inches
  • Thigh :  21 inches
  • Upper Arm :  11 inches
I am feeling very motivated today and ready for the challenge.  I start the morning with 2 Forever Garcinia Plus capsules, 20 mins later I drink 120mls of Aloe Vera Gel, along with plenty of water.  Although many people don't like the taste of the drink, I've been having a shot or two daily for a few months now, so I find it quite nice.   If you are planning doing the detox a few months down the line rather than now, it might be an idea to do the same.

Mid morning I take 2 Forever Bee Pollen tablets to keep up the energy and boost vitamins and minerals.  It is not advised to take pollen without trying a small dose beforehand to ensure you aren't allergic.

By lunch time I am feeling a little hungry but I've decided to take my shake at dinner instead, and go with the garicinia, aloe and pollen routine as earlier on.

Dinner time finally comes and after the garcinia and aloe vera I welcome the sight of my Forever Lite Ultra shake.  It is quite satisfying but a little sweet for my taste, something like melted ice-cream.   

Before bed it's another glass of aloe, as much water as possible and into bed looking forward to getting day 2 out of the way.

Although you don't get to eat anything on Day 1 it is quite structured with plenty going on, you tick things off your list, keep busy and get through it very easily.

Day 2

This is the second food free day.  Surprisingly enough I didn't wake up as hungry as I expected, but I did wake up very alert. The day structure is exactly the same as day one, so I won't bore you with the list.   However I did take the shake at lunch time today as I cleaned the house like a Trojan for 4 hours in the morning and needed the nutrition early.   Fasting seems to give me a similar feel to the nesting urge at the end of pregnancy.  It was great as I'm not very domesticated so it gave me the chance to clear a lot of clutter from the home.  I'm detoxing body and home.   

Day 3 Weigh and Measure:
  • Weight:  9 stone 4 pounds   down 5 and 3/4 pounds
  • BMI:  22.4  down 1.1
  • Body Fat:  25.4%  down 1.4%
  • Water:  54.5 up 0.6%
  • Waist:  25.5   down 1.5 inches
  • Hips:  37.5  down 1.5 inches
  • Thigh:  21  no change
  • Upper Arm: 10.5  down half an inch
Really happy with the results so far. Can't believe I dropped all that weight in 2 days.  Delighted to see that my water percentage has gone up, and fat has gone down, proving this is not just fluid loss.

On Day 3 food is reintroduced to the body, in the form of a 600 calorie meal.   I found the morning and afternoon of Day 3 the most challenging, felt a little lethargic until dinner time that evening.   However I'm usually more hungry waiting for lunch time at work from my breakfast that morning.  This is not like the usual hunger and urgency we feel.   I feel a lot more relaxed about eating on this programme.  

Breakfast now contains along with the usual garcinia, and aloe, a meal replacement shake.  One scoop of Forever light mixed with either skimmed milk, soya milk or water.  I personally used skimmed milk, or half skimmed milk and half water.  If you choose to mix with water you can keep the extra calories to use later on.  Mid morning we keep the bee pollen.   

At lunch time we now have the Forever Light shake and leave out the aloe.  People who aren't fond of the aloe vera drink enjoy making it to day 3 as the aloe is only taken twice now, rather than the 4 times it must be drank on Day 1 and 2.   

Food, glorious Food.  The moment has come.  After 120 mls of Aloe Vera and 2 Forever Garcinia plus before the meal, I can now eat.  I used my 600 calories today on a generous portion of oven cooked chicken fillet, mixed veg and baby potatoes with a small amount of dressings with herbs.   I feel completely satisfied after this meal.  A couple of bee pollen tablets shortly afterwards and water now until bedtime.   

Day 4 

Day 3-9 follow the same meal plan daily.  However as I was in work today I chose to have the 600 calorie meal at lunch time.   Hairdressing is tiring and strenuous so I thought it was a better idea to get the energy boost earlier, and relax with my shake later at home.

Day 5

Today I'm starting to realise how much I am usually eating down to boredom or habit.  My body is alerting me that I am ravenous with hunger only because I usually eat at that time.   We all know the feeling.  You get home from work, you are starving.  Your work runs into your lunch time, you are starving.  It's liberating to have shaken that feeling.  By the time for my 600 calorie meal I don't even feel too hungry, I could take or leave it.  I eat it and enjoy it, I am satisfied at the end of the meal and don't long for something else.  

Day 6 Weigh and Measure:

  • Weight: 9 stone 4 no change
  • BMI: 22.4 no change
  • Body Fat: 25.2%  down 0.2%
  • Water: 54.6%  up 0.1%
  • Waist: 25 down half inch
  • Hips: 37 down half inch
  • Thigh: 20 down 1 inch
  • Upper Arm: 10.5 inches no change
A little bit disappointing that there is no change in weight on the scales today as I feel much thinner. However I am bursting with energy now and feeling really healthy.  I will increase exercise and be ruthless counting calories in the last 3 days.    

Day 7

Today my jeans are falling off me, to the point they are slipping down past my knickers.   Might have to move down a dress size!    Can't believe I'm getting these kind of results in a week.  

Day 8

Feeling very energetic today.  Done Billy Blanks Tae Bo exercise routine off YouTube and got stuck into some housecleaning.  I've done more housecleaning this week than I have done in my life.  Really happy to detox my body and clean my living space at the same time.  This detox is making me so productive.

Day 9

I don't know how, and I don't know why I thought I was on the second last day today, but I realised when I went to fill in my diary at 6 pm that I am actually at the end of my Clean 9 journey.   This was so easy, I actually can't believe it's over already.  Thoroughly enjoyed it.   Will post final results tomorrow morning.

I am really happy with the results I got from Clean 9.  I cannot believe I have lost over half a stone in just 9 days.   Best of all my fat percentage is down, so I am now leaner.   My water percentage is now up, proving it is not fluid that I've lost.   I've shaved a few inches off and my clothes are fitting more comfortably than ever.  I'm full of energy and feel much more motivated about exercising and eating healthily.  The detox has trained me to drink plenty of water and I've also grown quite fond of a variety of herbal teas.   I'm now used to not snacking through habit.   Some of these changes will now be a way of life for me.
